Christmas message

Christmas message Given twitter has a limited number of characters, I thought I’d write a Christmas message here in a blog post instead. Well, what a year 2020 has been, and I’m sure it’s a year many would like to forget. To say it has been challenging would be an understatement. If this year, you have had to leave your job, both voluntarily or compulsory, I hope 2021 brings you the chance to get back in Employment if not already done so. If this year, you have lost a close friend or relative, both covid and non covid related, I hope 2021 brings you the chance to rebuild, remember and begin the healing process for you. If this year, it’s meant little travel opportunity, not seeing friends or family, or just feeling isolated, let 2021 be the year of exploration, discovery and reconnecting. Thank you so much for following this account. I know it’s not been a normal year, I know my tweets go a little off piste occasionally, and I know the news has probably been a little more negative than

United Airlines Manchester

United Airlines at Manchester. The curious case of a disappearing airline. It’s far to say, Covid has wreaked havoc on the aviation industry. Prolonged border closures, public perceptions of the virus and job losses across the globe has put a huge strain on an industry which was booming in 2019. Manchester has been no exception to losing flights. BA cityflyer has pulled their weekend operation, Westjet has postponed its Halifax launch for the foreseeable and Oman Air have suspended their Muscat route indefinitely too. There was one airline however, where their pull out puzzled me a little more than the others, and that was United Airlines. United have been serving Manchester for bee 20, although the majority of those years were flying under the Continental banner, in the days before the United/Continental merger. In that time, the flight used the DC-10, the B757, B777-200 (including the brilliant Peter Max livery) as well as 3 variants of the B767 (-200, -300 And -400). 2019 was when t

Is Manchester Airport subject to bias

Is Manchester Airport subject to unfair bias? So, this is the next installment of my opinion pieces, and oh boy, is this going to be a controversial one. I’m expecting a lot of flack for this one, and likely to loose the odd follower, but, it’s a viewpoint I’ve wanted to put across for a while, but, never really had the time or energy to put it down in words, but, I’ll give it a go tonight. Throughout a lot of my adult life, I’ve observed aviation forums and social media, as well as luckily work in the industry. In that time, I’ve always had a soft spot for Manchester Airport. It was the airport Id come as a kid to watch the aircraft, it’s where most overseas holidays began, and its where my love of aviation began.  I know it’s not the perfect airport, by any stretch. Yes, it’s very rough around the edges, yes it’s staff have perennially been cast as rather surly, and yes, it sees more than it’s fair share of moans about the security queues, and thus, it’s the airport a lot of people l
